Junior Counselors (JC):
For teens completing LIT or teens 15-16 looking to gain
future employment at YMCA Camp Harrington we offer a
Junior Counselor Program. JCs serve as assistants to our
counselors and are asked to complete weekly biographies
on what they are learning. Junior Counselors are also
evaluated weekly to ensure they understand what is
expected of them and how they can improve. Finally, they
meet bi-weekly with a Sr. Counselor to assess how they
are doing as a group and to educate them on the process
and what is expected in a summer portfolio.
Junior Counselors are put on payroll and are given the
chance to earn a paid slot to work pre and post camp
duties, camp overnights, and even counselor pay
depending on their progress.
JC II is an off shoot of the JC program for JCs not quite
ready to take on the full duties as a counselor at Camp
Harrington. JC IIs are put on a split contract and spend
the 1st X part of the summer as a volunteer and the last X
part of the summer as paid staff. JC IIs are typically put
on ½ and ½ or 2/3 and 1/3 contracts.
