Family Night Expectations
During Family Night, it is the counselors who are the ones
that set the tone for the night. It is a night where the
counselors are on a pedestal and are being watched by all
the families. It is important that counselors are dressed
with your family night shirt, report to your duty area 5
minutes early, and that you act appropriately. It is also
important for counselors to remain energetic and sprite!
When the Special Event takes place at the field (or other
designated area), it is important that the staff is where they
are supposed to be at each station and monitor their own
station appropriately and fairly. If you are not assigned to a
certain area, then you should be assisting any station that
needs help, monitoring the behavior of the kids, mingling
with the families, and most importantly asking the director
or assistant director if there is anything that you can do to
assist them. A counselor should never be mingling
with other counselors during this time. Family night is
for the campers and their families, if there is any downtime
in between tasks or activities, counselors should be talking
with the families and campers. It is also important to
remember that the night is for kids to show their families
what they do at camp – so let them climb, arch, swim and
play with their families!
