Swim Lessons and Recreational Swim
Swimming
Swimming at Camp Harrington is held in a Spring Fed
Pond. The Swimming area has a horseshoe dock and the
swim areas are divided into 3. Area 1 is for our beginner
swimmers and tops out at 3.5 feet, Area 2 is for our
intermediate swimmers and goes as deep as 6 feet, and
Area 3 is for our advanced swimmers and goes as deep 14
feet.
YMCA Swim levels are used and taught at camp. The
levels are:
Polliwog -->children here are new to swimming, working on
stroke development, comfort in the water, and developing
endurance.
Guppy --> children here are able to swim 1/2 the length of
a pool on their front and back without flotation.
Minnow --> children here can swim the front crawl and
back crawl
Fish --> children here can swim the front crawl, back crawl,
and elementary backstroke
Flying Fish -->children here can swim 2 lengths of front
crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, and 1 length of
breast stroke
Shark --> Children here can do 100yd butterfly, back
stroke, breast stroke, and free style
In the afternoons children at camp have free swim and are
able to swim on their own in the areas they are qualified to
swim in or they can choose to play with sand toys in our
beach area.
