Swimming

Swimming at Camp Harrington is held in a Spring Fed Pond. The Swimming area has a horseshoe dock and the swim areas are divided into 3. Area 1 is for our beginner swimmers and tops out at 3.5 feet, Area 2 is for our intermediate swimmers and goes as deep as 6 feet, and Area 3 is for our advanced swimmers and goes as deep 14 feet.

YMCA Swim levels are used and taught at camp. The levels are:

Polliwog: Children here are new to swimming, working on stroke development, comfort in the water, and developing endurance.
Guppy: children here are able to swim 1/2 the length of a pool on their front and back without flotation.
Minnow: Children here can swim the front crawl and back crawl
Fish: Children here can swim the front crawl, back crawl, and elementary backstroke
Flying Fish: Children here can swim 2 lengths of front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, and 1 length of breast stroke
Shark: Children here can do 100yd butterfly, back stroke, breast stroke, and free style

In the afternoons children at camp have free swim and are able to swim on their own in the areas they are qualified to swim in or they can choose to play with sand toys in our beach area.
